S’NO Snow!

I’m not complaining about the mild winter we’ve been having, but I hope everyone realizes it just isn’t right.  Winter is supposed to be cold.  We’re supposed to have snow and ice and lots of it.
Found this photo of my younger brother taken in 1964, next to a snowman my older brother built.  Can’t show [...]

Happy Holidays

Happy Holidays.  No matter what you call it, how you observe it, or what it means to you – may this Holiday find you warm, healthy, happy, sheltered, well-fed, and loved.

Ho Ho Boomer

Boomer wasn’t all that impressed with the big elf, and spent most of the time sniffing all the before-him dog scents on the suit.  But he warmed up to Santa and stood still long enough for the cheap photo when Santa started scratching his ears.  This wasn’t planned, or I’d have brought my own camera.

Field Notes

This afternoon Boomer and I took a walk to our favorite field on the property.  The colors were particularly bright, as the sun was low enough to cast some nice light and shadows, but high enough still for plenty of daylight.
This is the same field where the banding nets are set in the fall, when [...]

Beach Rocks and Snow

I miss the Florida beaches, no doubt about it.  Even though it’s been unnaturally warm and beautiful here in northern NJ, it’s December, and I’m missing the beach.  There’s just no getting around it.

One of the neat things about beaches are the “rocks” that you can find.  I have two that I keep with me.  [...]

Oh Look! A Christmas Meme!

I was contemplating what to write about this morning and found this meme on Hasty Brook.  Perfect timing – thanks, Lynne!
1. Eggnog or hot chocolate!
That’s a tough question.  Hot chocolate if I’m cold..but eggnog is always good too.  Decisions..decisions..
 2. Does Santa wrap present or just set them under the tree?
Oh, wrapped, always, unless they’re too [...]

Of Mice and Women

My elderly mother cannot tolerate rodents of any shape or form.  This amazingly strong woman, who raised six children (in the country!), ran her own business, accumulated a closet full of ballroom dancing trophies, looks like she’s 70 instead of 89, still has her own teeth and can hear you talking about her just fine from across [...]

Waiting for Santa

Saturday I cut a cedar tree for Christmas and with the help of some friends, managed to get it set up and the lights on.  Last night I put a few ornaments on it, but didn’t finish.  Barely got started actually.  I did put the tree skirt around the bottom, and left it at that [...]

Maia

Rob sent me a link today for a news story about a wolf hybrid that saved its elderly owners.  The link is here:  Wolf story.  Rob and I both hold wolves in high regard, but this story is close to my heart because I had a wolf hybrid for 10 years, and she save me [...]
