Blue Mountains and Buttermilk

Got a bit of cabin fever this afternoon and decided on a drive over the hill (literally) to the Walpack area to find something interesting to photograph for this blog.  Really.
It was dreary and spritzing snow as I approached Peter’s Valley.  I had to stop and get a picture of one of my favorite trees.

Something Different

Since I’m in NJ, I missed the annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival that’s going on in Tampa, Florida right now.  My sister and her husband went yesterday, and watched the  Jose Gasparilla sail into Tampa Bay.  Pirates descend on the city, ‘buying’ the citizens with their ’swag’ – in this case, zillions and zillions (really) of really [...]

Just When You Thought They Were Sleeping

They weren’t!  Or at least, this one isn’t.  He should be hibernating, but he’s out and about in Sparta, NJ where Rob lives.

Actually, NJ black bears aren’t true hibernators, in that they are fully capable of getting up and moving around if the weather is mild.  The funny thing is, I wouldn’t call 22 degrees mild!  [...]

Powdered Sugar, Rabbits, Mice and Little People

Well, we have some snow -a whole half inch, at least.  It wasn’t much, but it was pretty.  The woods look like some giant came along and sprinkled us all with powdered sugar.
I caught a mouse last night in the live trap, so we took a little trip down to the fields to find him [...]

Boomered

Thanks for all the input on the Big Bunny Decision of ‘07!  In spite of all the good vibes, I’m leaning toward NOT going down the bunny trail just yet.  I know how innocent old Boomer looks, and how cute he is, but he’s also very needy and is never more than a few feet [...]

To Bunny or Not

So tell me….

Does this look like a bunny-chaser to you?

Bunnies!

A friend came over yesterday and brought a newspaper for the neighboring NY state area, which is only about 20 minutes from here.  There was a photo of pets for adoption at the local shelter.  Besides the expected long list of dogs and cats – there was the unexpected - FOUR bunnies at this shelter.

This one, a [...]

Random Thoughts

I’m on a writing deadline, so I can only ramble for a few minutes here.  It actually snowed this morning, for about three minutes, while the sun was shining.  While I’m concerned about this ‘warming’ trend that experts say has nothing to do with global warming but is in fact due to el nina (or [...]

Not So Lovely

Oh yes, the lakes here are lovely.  There are five, all within a five to ten minute walk of the house.  The largest one is Rooke Lake – it’s the one with the beach, the boats, and the beavers.  In winter, I can see it from the living room windows.

There are three more ponds, one [...]
