Defiance

I was raking up some leaves in the yard a couple of days ago and found this old brick tucked under a corner of the porch where the day lilies grow.  While everything around it was brown, dried up and dead, the brick was bursting with a thriving lemon balm plant – an escapee from a nearby herb garden.
I think I’ll bring it indoors before the next frost and keep it over the winter.  Such determination deserves a little help.
